Tulsi

A common household plant worshipped by many Indians, Tulsi also known as the holy basil is the best example of plants that can easily be grown and taken care of. It has been used since times immemorial for the treatment of bronchitis, bronchial asthma, malaria, diarrhea, dysentery, skin diseases, arthritis, painful eye diseases, chronic fever, insect bite etc.

Curry plant

Leaves of this plant have established their supremacy in Maharashtrian cuisine. Curry leaves are rich in antioxidants, vitamins (such as A, B, C, and E), and minerals. They are believed to have various health benefits, including aiding digestion, promoting hair health, reducing cholesterol, controlling diabetes, and having anti-inflammatory properties. Alongwith this, it is also the host plant of the Common mormon butterfly.

Curry plant

Can be grown from : Cuttings.

Mint

Anyone who’s grown mint is a fan of the refreshing smell and the resilience of this plant. Mint exhibits multiple health beneficial properties, such as prevention from cancer development and anti-obesity, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic, and cardioprotective effects. However, beware while planting mint and make sure to pot it in a planter. It can quickly spread like a weed!

Hibiscus

Known for its bright red flowers and oil used to strengthen hair, Hibiscus is a small shrub that can easily be maintained in one’s backyard. Hibiscus for hair can be very beneficial when applied in the form of an oil or hair mask.

Can be grown from : Cuttings. Use a good pair of scissors to cut a healthy twig and plant it in soil.

Requirement : Bright sunlight for 5-6 hours/day, watering regularly to maintain soil moisture

Aloe vera

Known for its ability to withstand extreme conditions, this is a perfect plant for someone who isn’t used to taking care of plants. Aloe vera thrives on neglect! Just place the plant pot in a spot that receives a good amount of sunlight and forget it. You can water it once in a few days as and when you remember.

Aloe vera has been traditionally used to treat skin injuries (burns, cuts, insect bites, and eczemas) and digestive problems because of its anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and wound healing properties.

Can be grown from : Cuttings, just pluck a small part and put it in soil.

Requirement : All kinds of soils, watering once in 3-4 days, bright direct sunlight for atleast 3-4 hours/day.
