Wild Explorer

Isn’t it always fun and relaxing to go out trekking in the woods and then camping overnight? Although many of us who are used to the sedentary lifestyle wouldn’t agree that trekking can be fun, but the thought of spending a night in the woods is certainly fascinating for all of us! Wondering what makes it so interesting? Read about our overnight trek and camping at Prabalmachi to find out…

We began trekking from the base point at 4 in the afternoon and walked through the trail, exchanging our thoughts, observing the trees and listening to the bird calls. It took us around 2.5-3 hours to reach the plateau where our host had prepared our tents. In these 3 hours, we had taken multiple halts in order to refresh our spirit and appreciate the views as the setting sun amid the mountain peaks created a beautiful canvas that no living person could not wait and appreciate.

After a successful trek uphill, we finally reached our campsite and rested for a moment. We were physically a little tired but our souls weren’t. We were having the time of our lives by playing games and interacting with each other. Appreciating the moment that we were living in, as we felt all our tension and worries vanishing slowly. It was then time for a scrumptious meal. What better than a home cooked meal by the locals themselves? It was simple and mouthwatering and incredibly delicious! We thanked the locals for the hearty meal and decided to go on a short trail.

Squash Bug on a tree

We scanned the bushes, trees and crevices around looking for critters and herps. Though we couldn’t spot any snakes, we were delighted to see squash bugs on a plant and katydid adults and young ones on another plant. There was a weirdly large brown caterpillar on the bush nearby that had fed on almost every other leaf. No doubt why I consider them a feeding machine! The highlight however was the perfectly camouflaged praying mantis. These are one of my favourite insects, with perfectly folded hands and powerful jaws, stealth in every move just like the big cats! We noticed our host getting wood and quickly realised what was coming next…

It was now time for us to sit around the bonfire. How can your camping experience be complete without one? We were having the time of our lives! What added to the moment was the joy of sharing our stories and experiences and not to forget, the delicious and crispy on the outside and molten on the inside marshmallows that we were roasting. If you haven’t tried this yet, you must!

Bonfire and stories

We tried taking some photos of the night sky and the results were pretty good! If you own a DSLR, it is highly recommended that you carry it. One can get the best photos of the milky way from the campsite. We then spent a few hours watching the shooting stars and making wishes and off we went to our tents to relax.

Starry night (Full brightness recommended)

We woke up before sunrise and started clicking pictures and making timelapses. Having freshened up, our host offered us a scrumptious breakfast and a cup of lemongrass tea. This was all we needed to pack our bags and start descending. With all the memories and enthusiasm, we walked down spotting birds on the sides of the trail and were greeted by fellow enthusiasts who were climbing uphill. It is definitely an experience worth having!
